My Brother’s Voice

September 3, 2016

https://marieharris.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Hey-Jack.m4a

Basil got news of his illness–Total Systems Atrophy–more than two years ago, and since then he has slowly been losing the functions of his body and his mind. I will write about my brother, but for the moment I want to celebrate him by making public all the songs I have that he’s written, collaborated on and performed. One by one. This one–“Hey, Jack”–was a gift to his godson almost Bas 2014two decades ago. (Picture a toddler zooming around the kitchen in a wheelie chair. Now picture a sophomore at UVM majoring in computer science.)

Walking Song

WALKING SONG …reminding herself that she was only an elderly woman who had got up too early in the morning and journeyed too far, that the despair creeping over her was merely her despair, her personal weakness, and that even if she got a sunstroke and went mad the rest of the world would go […]
