A Poet for Your Bookshelf, Classroom or Library

Welcome. Come on in and browse through my books of poetry, including my newest collection: DESIRE LINES. Browse through the anthologies I’ve edited and those in which my poems appear, and essays and articles on subjects ranging from adventures in Corvettes to blue water sailing on a brigantine and coastal sailing off New Hampshire and Maine, to New England farm stays, to birding. You can also find photos of my collaborations with painters, sculptors, photographers and musicians.  Listen to audio clips of a sampling of my voiceover work.

As a poet, I perform and teach at colleges & universities throughout the country, and in residencies in elementary and high schools, libraries, writers’ workshops and retreats, and senior centers. I am the recipient of a NH State Council on the Arts fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship. I have served as Visiting Writer at the Vermont Studio Center. As NH Poet Laureate (1999-2004) I co-produced the first-ever conference of state poets laureate. I am a member of one of the country’s first women-centered poetry cooperative–Alice James Books–which is celebrating more than 40 years of publishing.

My prose poem memoir—YOUR SUN, MANNY—can be read as both poetry and social commentary. It is the story–told in my words, his words, and notes and letters from family, teachers, coaches, friends–of a Puerto Rican foster child with learning disabilities, whom we adopted at age 14, bringing him from inner city Springfield, Massachusetts to the woods of New Hampshire to begin an entirely new life.   Please contact me to arrange a visit to your middle or high school, and the English and Social Work departments at your college or university.

My two New Hampshire-themed picture books – G is for GRANITE and PRIMARY NUMBERS – are suitable on different levels for grades K-8.  My latest children’s picture book is THE GIRL WHO HEARD COLORS which explores the phenomenon of synesthesia through the eyes of a little girl. I’m pleased to be considered for a visit to your elementary, middle or high school.

For three decades I have voiced documentaries, industrial films, public service spots and other radio assignments.

As an independent businesswoman and technical writer, I speak to professional groups and  conduct business writing workshops. I am also available on a freelance basis to write and edit technical copy. You can see samples of my work at www.isinglassmarketing.com

I hope you enjoy exploring these pages. Please use the site as a resource and don’t hesitate to contact me for more information. I will be very responsive to your needs. My fees are negotiable.

Walking Song

WALKING SONG …reminding herself that she was only an elderly woman who had got up too early in the morning and journeyed too far, that the despair creeping over her was merely her despair, her personal weakness, and that even if she got a sunstroke and went mad the rest of the world would go […]
